Caring for your jewellery
Aija Kivi Jewellery is made from (gold and rhodium plated) 925 sterling silver. A beautiful precious metal that does need a little love and care to keep it at it’s best. Although Aija Kivi Jewellery is designed to last for many years to come, all precious jewelry will naturally tarnish and look dull if proper care have not been taken.
Jewelry box
The best way to care for your jewellery and prevent it from tarnishing is to store it in a dark and dry airtight container, like our jewelry box that comes with the pieces.
Humidity
Don’t leave jewelry in the bathroom. Humidity can speed up the oxidation process that produces tarnish.
Perfumes
Jewelry should be the last thing put on before leaving the house, and the first thing removed when returning home. This will help minimize your jewelry’s contact with perfumes, lotions, and hairsprays as these may affect the color or luster.
Showering
To make sure that your jewelry remains as shiny as possible, we advise you not to wear them whilst showering, exercising, swimming, or going to a sauna. This is particularly important when on the beach, in the sea and in chlorinated water.
Cleaning
Clean your jewelry gently using a polishing cloth or soft and dry 100% cotton cloth. By doing so you’ll restore the shine of your jewelry. There are also many tips online for cleaning silver at home. Just remember that silver is very soft, so use something very soft like children’s toothbrush to avoid scratching.
Storing
Store your jewelry separately from each other to avoid scratching, especially diamonds and necklaces from tangling up.
Gold Plated Jewelry
Gold plated silver may fade if the jewellery care instructions are not followed, do not expose gold plated silver to water, perfumes, or lotions, this may cause the plating to fade. In addition to that, gold plated silver may naturally fade over time.
